This Privacy Policy explains how Velynk (available at alumsage.com) collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information when you use our platform.

1. Who we are

2. Information we collect

We collect information you provide, information generated through your use of Velynk, and limited technical data needed to operate the service.

Account and identity

  • Name, email address, profile photo, and account role (student, alumni/mentor, or admin)
  • Authentication identifiers from our identity provider (Firebase Auth)
  • Phone number and verification status, when you complete contact verification

Profile and professional information

  • Education details (school, program, graduation timing, major, and related fields you choose to share)
  • Bio, location, skills, mentorship topics, work experience, and social links
  • Profile visibility preferences (public, alumni-only, or private)
  • Settings such as whether to show your email or LinkedIn profile
  • Resume uploads and AI-derived summaries or keywords used only for search and matching, not displayed as public profile content unless you choose to share related fields

Community and communication content

  • Feed posts, discussion threads, replies, reactions, and bookmarks
  • Direct messages and connection requests (after approval)
  • Live room participation, session feedback, and reviews
  • Reports you submit about content or users

Bookings, sessions, and payments

  • Session and booking records (times, status, cancellation reasons)
  • Payment-related metadata (amount, currency, transaction references). Full payment card details are processed by our payment providers (Stripe or Razorpay), not stored by Velynk.

Verification and trust

  • LinkedIn verification data for alumni, where you opt in
  • School affiliation claims and admin confirmation records
  • Moderation and safety-related logs tied to reports or enforcement actions

Technical and usage data

  • Device and browser type, IP address, and general log data
  • Cookies and similar technologies described in Section 10
  • Feature usage needed for security, troubleshooting, and product improvement

3. How we use information

We use personal information to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve Velynk features you request
  • Create and manage your account and authenticate you
  • Enable discovery, recommendations, search, and matching between students and mentors
  • Facilitate bookings, sessions, live rooms, messaging, and reviews
  • Process payments and support refund requests through authorized channels
  • Send service communications (verification, booking updates, reminders, support replies)
  • Protect users and the platform through verification, fraud prevention, moderation, and enforcement
  • Comply with law and respond to lawful requests

We do not sell your personal information.

4. Legal bases and lawful purposes

United States: Where applicable, we rely on your consent, performance of our contract with you, legitimate interests (such as security and product improvement), and legal obligations.

India (Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023): We process personal data for lawful purposes including service delivery, safety, compliance, and — where required — with your consent. You may withdraw consent where processing is consent-based, subject to contractual or legal limits.

5. How we share information

We share information only as described below:

With other users

Profile fields, posts, messages, reviews, and booking/session details are visible to others according to your settings, feature context, and role (for example, alumni-only visibility).

For legal and safety reasons

If Velynk is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your information may transfer subject to this Policy.

6. International data transfers

Velynk serves users in multiple countries. Your information may be processed in the United States, India, or other locations where we or our providers operate. We use appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers as required by applicable law.

7. Retention

We retain personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and meet legal obligations. When data is no longer required, we delete or anonymize it within a reasonable period, unless a longer retention period is required by law.

8. Your rights and choices

Depending on your location, you may have rights to:

  • Access, correct, or update your profile information in account settings
  • Request deletion of your account and associated data, subject to legal exceptions
  • Object to or restrict certain processing where applicable law provides such rights
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent

California and other US state privacy laws: Where applicable, you may have additional rights regarding access, deletion, and opt-out of certain processing. Contact privacy@alumsage.com to exercise these rights.

9. Security

We implement administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and monitoring. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Cookies and similar technologies

Velynk uses cookies and local storage for essential functions, including:

  • Authentication session — keeping you signed in
  • Pre-launch access gate — where enabled, storing access approval
  • Preferences — such as theme selection

We do not use third-party advertising cookies at this time. If that changes, we will update this Policy and, where required, request consent.

You can control cookies through browser settings, but disabling essential cookies may limit functionality.

11. Children's privacy

Velynk is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact privacy@alumsage.com and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

Users between 16 and 18 should use Velynk with parental or guardian awareness where local law requires.

12. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page with an updated effective date and, where required, provide additional notice for material changes.
